From the opening kick off on Saturday afternoon at University Field the Kutztown (9-1) football team meant business. The Golden Bears showed the Bloomsburg Huskies (8-2) just how serious they were defeating their PSAC East rivals 52-14.

Going into Saturday's match-up a lot was at stake for the 12th ranked Huskies and 13th ranked Golden Bears. A win for either team would ensure a PSAC East Division title and a possible NCAA post-season berth.Kutztown hasn't had much success against the perennial PSAC power Bloomsburg, not beating the Huskies since 1992. That would all change however, with Kutztown out-performing the Huskies in all phases on Saturday.The action started early for Kutztown with Corey Harris intercepting a Huskies' pass on Bloomsburg's first play of the game. The Harris interception set up a 43-yard Jack Ruggeri field goal.The rest as people would say was history. The Golden Bears poured it on after the Ruggeri kick, scoring seven more touchdowns throughout the ball game. Kutztown out-scored Bloomsburg 21-0 between the second and third quarters pretty much sealing the fate of a loss for the Huskies.The last nail in the coffin for Bloomsburg came with 10:06 left in the fourth when multi-purpose running back John Mastromatto returned a Huskies' kick 83 yards for a Golden Bears touchdown.Kutztown's junior quarterback Kevin Morton had a great day for the Golden Bears going 21-34 for 304 yards and four touchdowns. Morton constantly found receivers across the middle of the Bloomsburg defense and played mistake free football for Kutztown..Kutztown received a pleasant surprise in the off-season when Lehighton alum and former TIMES NEWS Football Player of the Year Robbie Frey transferred from Connecticut to play for the Golden Bears.Frey was the favorite to replace Connecticut's Jarod Todman, who left early for the NFL. Frey sited his reason for leaving UConn as wanting to play closer to home so he could be near his family and friends for his fifth year of eligibility.In his junior year at Connecticut he rushed for 389 yards and four touchdowns and was most remembered for his 95-yard kickoff return against Oklahoma in The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.Frey has been the workhorse for Kutztown since joining the team this season. He turned in another solid effort running the football against the Huskies, rushing for 85 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown. On the season Frey has rushed for 928 yards on 142 carries, while scoring 10 touchdowns."I'm real proud of this football team today," said Frey. The offensive line played great today and helped me gain the yards to help us win the ball game. That was a good team we played today and we showed that were a good football team too."With Kutztown only being a little under an hour away from Lehighton Frey is happy to be playing so close to his friends and family."I love being back in PA playing football again," said Frey. "This is where it all started for me and it's great that my family gets to see me play every week. My grandparents get to see me play all the time as well and that's always been very important to me."With the win Frey and the Golden Bears clinched the PSAC East Division title and will host Slippery Rock (PSAC West champ) for the PSAC Championship this Saturday at University Field.A record crowd of over 8,000 people were at the game on Saturday, which was the homecoming game for the Golden Bears.
