Nearly 700 people enjoyed a hayride along the historic Lehigh Canal towpath at Weissport on Sunday. The Old Fashioned Hay Ride and Fall Fest was the first official event of the Beltzville Lions Club.

With perfect weather and beautiful scenery along the towpath, the event brought a great review from those attending the event.Along with the hayrides, were children's activities by Dean Gombert and family, plus Troxell's Pumpkin Patch and All American Kettle Corn shared the day with the Lions Club."We had a great time and we are hoping to do it again next year," said Joe Craig, club president. "We really enjoyed serving the community by offering this event."The club made a special effort to invite elderly people and people with disabilities to attend the event.Providing John Deere tractors for the event were Lou Seibert and Todd Dreisbach of Danielsville of L-TNT Pyrotechs, Inc. of Walnutport. Seibert and Dreisbach enjoy collecting and restoring John Deeres and this event gave them the opportunity to share their love of tractors with the community.Many children's' eyes lit up when they saw the John Deere tractors at the Lehigh Canal Park. Several of the wagon loads of people sang during their tractor rides to the delight of the drivers.Refreshments were provided by members of the Beltzville Lions Club. The club received its charter on Sept. 20 and presently have 31 members. The club will celebrate its charter night on Dec. 11 at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.The Walnutport Canal Association and Lou Seibert provided the hay wagons for the event.
