Artists for a day.

It was by no coincidence that art work recently graced Blue Mountain Health System's Adult Day Service Center in Palmerton.Clients who created the tastefully-done drawings were joined by family members as part of Family Appreciation Night.The theme of this year's event was "Adult Day Service Center Art Gallery", whereby the center was decorated and featured various art work that was done by all of its clients.Clients, such as Linda Saltzer, proudly displayed their art work for all to see, before they danced to music and entertainment provided by "Tammy G".Others, such as Frances Vargo, of Lehighton, were content to spend time with family."I love it here," Vargo said. "I should be dancing."Vargo's daughter, Janet Davis, of Albrightsville, said she couldn't be happier for her mother."It's good to have family members come in," Davis said. "It's good for the individual that's here to come in and meet everybody."Roxanne Downs, director of Adult Day Services, said about 25 clients participated in the activity."They got into it, used color and things like that," Downs said. "They used different techniques and are a good group."The Adult Day Service Center provides state-licensed respite care for older adults.In addition to free time and ample rest periods, clients participate in a wide variety of activities based on the client's particular abilities, including daily exercise, crafts, games, puzzles, pet therapy, cooking and baking, gardening, dancing, bingo, needlepoint and sewing, music and sing-a-longs, "theme weeks" and field trips.Daily nursing supervision allows for the monitoring of clients' medical conditions.
