A preliminary hearing for a Schuylkill County man accused of shooting to death his father was continued on Monday prior to the scheduled start of the proceeding.

District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, granted the request of Atty. Robert J. Kirwan II, of Reading, to continue the matter of Franklin Stumhofer Jr., 39, of 57 Summer Valley Rd., in Molino, West Brunswick Township.Stumhofer is accused of criminal homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He is accused of the shooting death of Franklin Stumhofer Sr., 61, of 6 Log Lane, New Ringgold, West Penn Township.State police at Frackville accused Stumhofer of shooting his father with a .45-caliber handgun about 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the victim's home.Troopers said Stumhofer went to his father's home to ask him for money and, after the elder Stumhofer refused, the son shot the father through the front door of the house.Troopers also allege that Stumhofer went to Hamburg and fired three bullets into a pickup truck driven by his brother-in-law, Larry Miller, 42, of 150 Upland Rd., Hamburg. Miller and two other occupants in the truck, Samuel Stumhofer, 35, of Temple, and Blain Schneck, 19, were not injured.Stumhofer has been charged with three counts of attempted homicide and four counts of each of aggravated and simple assault and five of recklessly endangering another person in that matter.Stumhofer is being held in the county prison without bail. A DJ can not set bail in a homicide case.Although the Hamburg incident occurred in Berks County, District Attorney James P. Goodman said his office will prosecute all the charges after reaching an agreement with the Berks DA's office that the acts were all part of one continuing incident.The prosecution of the case will be handled by Assistant District Attorneys A.J. Serina and Thomas J. Campion Jr.Ferrier did not immediately set a new date for the hearing.
