The Tamaqua Public Library is gearing up for National Book Month, which will be held in October. Activities will be held throughout the month, including amnesty week and Teen Read Week.Amnesty Week will be held Oct. 9 through Oct. 15. Fees on all overdue books will be waived during this time. This includes all late fees, giving procrastinators an opportunity to return late books, allowing other patrons to enjoy these editions.Teen Read Week is scheduled for Oct. 16-22. This year's theme is "Picture It @ Your Library." The Teen Read Program will be held Oct. 20, beginning at 6 p.m. Readers age 12 and up are welcome to give a short presentation on their favorite book. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will hold Fatima Saturday and Rosary Sunday observances this weekend.On Saturday, confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions prior to the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on Sunday and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said prior to the Mass.First Friday observances will be held next week. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.Calvary UMThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m. in the church.Relay meetingA meeting for the Relay For Life of Tamaqua and Surrounding Communities will be held Monday, Oct. 3, in room 104-105 at the LCCC Morgan Campus on High Street. The committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. and the team meeting will be held at 7 p.m.The main topic of consideration will be the location for the 2012 Relay For Life. All options will be discussed. This will be the final opportunity to share an opinion before the decision is finalized.First MethodistThe Rev. Jim Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church.Activities for next week include: Monday, the Bible study program "Jesus In the Steps" will begin at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Chancel Choir rehearsal will be held at 7:30 p.m.Due to the Tamaqua Heritage Festival being held on Oct. 9, the next worship service will be held Oct. 8, at 6 p.m., with Cavallero officiating.
