PVEN statistics

During the quarterly hunger ministry meeting held at the Monroe County Administrative Center last week, the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Community Service Center statistics led in new families served in this August and overall clients served for the previous program year. The PVEN provided help to over 720 clients from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.Dates have already been set for this year's holiday distribution, when numbers of clients almost always swell. Anyone wishing to help the PVEN with contributions of food and funds can call the PVEN at (570) 992-3631 for particulars.Located in McIlhaney, Chestnuthill Township, near the Chestnuthill Diner, the PVEN primarily serves families from the four-township Pleasant Valley School District area.Effort food pantryThe Effort UMC food pantry, better known as the Supplemental Food Resource Center is helping families in need. This past Saturday, 35 families were helped, totaling 137 persons. Director Karen D'Arcy says what the center needs is: plastic bags, mayonnaise, ketchup, tuna, canned fruit, stew, chili, and pasta.Anyone wishing to contribute to this entity can bring items to the church during office hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by calling the church office at (570) 629-1890 to make arrangements.Flu shotsThe Visiting Nurse Association of Monroe County will be administering flu shots in Zion Lutheran's Parish Hall in Brodheadsville from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Oct. 3.For more information, contact the VNA office at (570) 517-7410.Who done it?Brodheadsville resident Bill Prall has been doing murder mysteries for years. One of his next presentations will be for the Monroe County Chapter of Thrivent. It is scheduled for early October.
