Renovation projects were updated on and voted upon by the Jim Thorpe School Board at Monday evening's meeting.

Director of Operations and Maintenance, Ted LaRizzio, gave an update about the football stadium renovations.The irrigation system is in place and work on the collector pipe is about 75 percent finished. It is estimated that it will take 12-14 work days to finish the stadium. However, that does not include the work being done on the practice football field.The board also voted to approve a proposal made for baseball field improvements.Baseball Head Coach, Gary Heydt, sought permission to put up a batting cage area for the team. These improvements will come at no cost to the district. Heydt and the baseball team conducted fundraisers to purchase a new pitching machine. The time it will take to dig ditches and set up the batting cage area will be volunteered.LaRizzio sees no problem with having this project done."As long as they follow all specs and guidelines," stated LaRizzio.Issues with the district parking lots were also discussed.During public comment, Robert Schaninger suggested it would be easier to seal coat the parking lots."I know the lots need to be fixed, there are some holes," he said.Board member, Gerald Strubinger, discussed about when the district could fix the parking lots.Many members felt that it was too late to do the work now and it would have to wait until next year.The board discussed that they need to have the cracks sprayed and holes filled in and they need to have all the details together. They are waiting to see how much money from the bond refinance, which is currently being used to cover extra costs for the football stadium renovations, is left over.
