Four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, AARP and AARP Foundation have joined forces in trying to solve the problem of senior hunger in America. Gordon's retired #24 Chevrolet car is now a show car for Drive to End Hunger. It was parked at the Mount Pocono Shop-Rite on Thursday, Aug. 4 from 2-6 p.m. West End members of AARP and Effort United Methodist Church asked visitors to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Effort UMC Supplemental Food Resource Center. Donna Lee Cresina said that the Effort UMC Supplemental Food Resource Center was most appreciative for the donations they received. "We serve between 30-40 families which could be up to 190 people a week. The program is to help feed families going through emergency or other short term situations and who may not be eligible for other local, county or state programs. They do not ask for proof of need or income. Families may not come for longer than eight weeks.
