For two performances, Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13 both at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauch Chunk Museum Ballroom, 41 W. Broadway, the Carbon Schuylkill Community Theater presents "Broadway on Broadway," a two-act production featuring original short comedic plays plus musical numbers, including an opening full-cast production of "On Broadway."Accompanied by pianist Audrey Christ, 10 classic tunes of Broadway will be recreated including, "As Long As He Needs Me" from Oliver! sung by Teah Garrison; "Memory" from Cats sung by Mary Christo; "Somewhere That's Green" from Little Shop of Horrors sung by Patti Sotak; and a medley of "Give My Regards to Broadway," "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "You're a Grand Old Flag," by John Drury.There will also be performances of "Anything Goes" sung by Marissa Miller and "Friendship," sung by Miller and Ryan Miorelli, both from Anything Goes; "How Do You Know You're in Love?" from Gilligan's Island: The Musical sung by Courtney Boches; "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables sung by Olivia Haydt; and a finale of "Lullaby of Broadway" from 42nd Street choreographed by Jonathan Rodgers and performed by an ensemble.Several original comedies were selected from among 20 submitted. They are: "Sammy Is That You" by James Walczy, directed by Zane Bachert; "Double Cross" written and directed by Ryan Miorelli; and "On Candleswick Avenue" by Tesia Nicoli, directed by Jim Cimms."Sammy Is That You?" is about a family planning the funeral of a dying man. It features a frustrated Bob Fatzinger as the offstage voice of the man in the hospital bed, while Dave Holmes portrays the onstage body.All around him, decisions are being made by his wife Gloria, played by Barbara Maloney; his flaky daughter Ann, played by Marissa Miller; and Gloria's gay gadfly brother Steven, who wants the funeral to be a big affair."Double Cross" is a who-done-it mystery/comedy starring Jim Cimms as Frank, a just-the-facts policeman; Marissa Miller as Ellen Harmon, a busy gas station manager; Zane Bachert as Chris Harmon, a freeloading slob living with his older brother's family; Teah Garrison as Sarah Harmon, their rebellious, annoying teenage daughter; and Bob Fatzinger as Rob Harmon, the deceased."On Candleswick Avenue" introduces Sarah, played by Courtney Boches. Following a potentially fatal accident, Sarah meets an angel, Theodosia, played by Mary Christo.
