SHCIO electsMaxine Vermillion was elected president of the Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization during a recent reorganizational meeting held in the borough hall. She succeeds Debra Ranck.Other officers elected are Michele Toniatti, vice president; Harry Miller, treasurer; and Kira Michalik, secretary.SHCIO will continue to meet on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the borough hall, although there will not be a meeting in July due to the Independence Day holiday.The next meeting will be held on Aug. 1, at which time members will discuss plans for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Ludlow Park. Sara Ruch, manager of the Lansford/Summit Hill Community Partnership, will report on the banners and brochures, and Ranck will report on the status of grants received.SHCIO invites anyone interested in helping to plan these activities to attend the meetings.Water authorityThe Summit Hill Water Authority will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 21, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Louis Alexander, president, will be in charge.Food distributionThe Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food items to the needy in town. Distributions are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of the month.Anyone needing this assistance, or knowing of others who may need help as well, is asked to contact Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604, or Sandra Hill, 645-4617.LansfordBloodmobile plansSt. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will sponsor a Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile visit to Lansford on Monday, June 20. The bloodmobile will be stationed in the church hall from noon to 6:30 p.m.Prospective donors can reserve their donation time in advance by calling coordinator John Karnish, (570) 645-3994.Miller-Keystone is the sole provider of blood for the area's hospitals.Server trainingA training session for youths interested in becoming alter servers at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will be held on Sunday, June 26, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the church. After the training, the new servers will serve at the 10:30 a.m. Mass with the help of their trainers.For more information, call the church office, (570) 645-2282.NesquehoningAnniversaryMr. and Mrs. Bernard Pisko of Hauto Valley Estates are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary on June 16. They were married in St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Coaldale. They have a son Michael, who is married to Michele, of Chester Springs, Pa.
