The meeting of May 23 of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was opened by Vice President Shirley Pavlick.A Memorial Day Prayer was recited by Frank Karnish. There were only 27 members present. Sue Dopira read comments on "Signs Of Aging"A moment of silence was held for former member Jean Baer. Three members of the club were recognized for participation at the Senior GamesTravel Reports were given by Karnish and Irene Hudasky on up coming trips. The Sunshine report was given by Mimi Marrin.Norma Burke led the sing along with a variety of Patriotic songs in honor of Memorial DayThe next meeting will be held June 13 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall, Summit Hill. The special guest will be Eileen Meiser who will entertain with her musical impersonations. Anyone 55 and older is welcome to join the organization. The hall is also handicapped accessible. Meetings are held every second and fourth Monday of the month.CoaldaleLions ClubThe Coaldale Lions Club will meet on Tuesday, June 14 and June 28, at 5:45 p.m. at the Viennese Villa, Coaldale. The June 28 meeting will be the installation of officers; and also the last indoor meeting until September.President Robert E. Ames will preside at both meetings.LansfordSt. John'sAt 7 p.m. each Wednesday St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion.All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer. Marjorie Keiter, (570) 645-0356.Summit HillParade winnersThe Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade Committee has announced the winners of contests the committee sponsored in conjunction with the Memorial Day parade. The committee held a float contest among parade entries, as well as its annual home-decorating contest.In the float judging, the Winnie-the-Pooh Pre-School entry was selected for the top prize of $200. Second place went to the Lansford American Legion Post while the third place winner was the Summit Hill Historical Society. Second and third place winners received $100 and $50, respectively.In the home decorating contest, Marion Nihen, 15 E. Hazard St., won the top prize of $100. Second place, $50, was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Markovich, West White Bear Drive, White Bear, while winning third place were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wargo, 109 E. Walter St. They received $25.Thomas Vermillion, parade committee chairman, said the committee is appreciative of all of the town residents having decorated their properties in observance of the holiday.Borough councilThe monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.SHHS Class of '51Members of the Class of 1951 of the former Summit Hill High School will hold their 60-year reunion on Sunday, June 26, at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.
