They tapped, sang and played instruments, all for others to finally have a home.

The variety show held in Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday night was well attended, with many in the audience there to cheer on fellow performers, who all came to together to raise funds for Family Promise, a new non profit organization that plans to help homeless families in Carbon County.Many of the performers sang faith-based songs and the ages varied from youngsters in Sunday School classes to senior citizens who tapped their way across the stage.In all 22 individuals and groups acts graced the stage, with some groups performing more than one selection. The audience certainly received a lot of entertainment for their ticket donation.The mission of Family Promise of Carbon County is to provide temporary shelter, meals, and fellowship in order to meet the basic needs of families without permanent housing in Carbon County. Families will be educated, encouraged, and empowered to become self-sufficient by support from the faith community and other local community resources.Larissa Kimmel, director, said that Family Promise has its 13 churches it needed to get up and running and she has high hopes that the organization will soon begin serving the neediest members of the community.Kimmel said that volunteers are essential to the organization's success.Family Promise provides a wide range of service like cooking and serving meals, playing with children or helping them with homework, interacting with guests with respect and compassion, and providing overnight security. The network depends on its success through its volunteers. Funds are raised locally from individuals, congregations, foundations, and corporations, through donations, grants and fundraising. Religious judicatories (regional denominational offices, such as the Presbytery, Methodist Conference, and Episcopal Diocese) often provide seed money, as well as ongoing funds, Local foundations within your county or state may also provide seed money.Many of the church groups also prepared refreshments, with the proceeds donated to Family Promise.
