Sixteen persons are aspiring to win nominations on the Democratic and Republican ballots for positions on the Jim Thorpe Area School District Board of Education.

That race, plus three contests in Penn Forest Township, are the only contested races in the Jim Thorpe area during next Tuesday's Primary election.School board raceThe voters are expected to fill six seats on the school board, including five four-year terms and one two-year term. Fourteen persons are the candidates for the four-year terms, including 13 who are cross-filed, while three of those 14, plus two others, are running for the two-year term.The district includes Jim Thorpe Borough, Penn Forest Township and Kidder Township South.Running to win nominations on both tickets for the four-year terms are Michael J. Huber, 1492 Mauch Chunk Lane; Jeremy Melber, 12 W. Third St., Glenn F. Confer Sr., 436 Center Ave., Bill Allison, 68 Piney Woods Drive, Ellen M. Kattner, 71 Bear Creek Lake Drive, Danielle R. Condly, 400 South Ave., Richard D. Karper, 19 W. Seventh St., Pearl Downs-Sheckler, 27 Teaberry Trail, Patricia Zovak, 11 W. Front St., Debra A. Pope, 141 Center Ave., Clement C. McGinley, 8 Alpine Lane and Dirk Pompa, 236 South Ave., all of Jim Thorpe; and John Partenio, 53 Pawnee Trail, Albrightsville.John F. Marchione, 915 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is also a candidate, although his name will appear only on the Democratic ballot.For the two-year term, Confer, Zovak and Condly have cross-filed petitions to appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, as have Walter Schulz, 650 Behrens Road, and Jerry Strubinger, 55 W. 10th St., both of Jim Thorpe.Penn Forest TownshipMeanwhile, in Penn Forest Township, there is a race for two Democratic nominations for six-year terms on the board of supervisors, while two persons are running against each other on that ballot for auditor positions.The supervisors' race has three Democratic candidates, including Christine A. Fazio, 37 Fox Hill Road, Albrightsville; Harry J. Connolly, 509 Bear Creek Lakes Drive, and Keith L. Knappenberger Sr., 305 Unionville Road, both of Jim Thorpe.Township voters are also expected to fill two posts as auditor, one for six years and the other for two years. Democrats Donna M. Briglio, 8 Skyline Drive, Albrightsville, and Coletta Oshin, 45 Shadblue Lane, Jim Thorpe, are running against each other for both positions.There are no Republican candidates for any of the three positions open in the township.Jim Thorpe BoroughThere are no contests in Jim Thorpe Borough this time around. Voters will elect three council persons to four-year terms in November.There are three Democratic candidates and one Republican candidate. The Democrats are John T. McGuire, 1325 Center St., Joseph F. Krebs, 604 Center St., and Betsy Ahner, 616 Maple St.Louis M. Hall, 2 Broadview Drive, is the lone GOP candidate.Kidder TownshipThere is a shortage of candidates in Kidder Township. Voters are expected to elect two persons to six-year terms on the board of supervisors and one person each to a six-year term as auditor and a two-year term as auditor.The only candidate on Kidder's ballot is Raymond N. Gluck, 302 Golden Oaks Drive, White Haven. A Democrat, he is running for one of the nominations for the supervisors' positions.
