Preschool Story Hour is held at 10:30 a.m. on each Friday through the school year. The programs are free and there is no preregistration. Last regular story hour will be June 10 and will resume on Sept. 2.

The Knitting Club has been organized for all area residents interested in knitting, crocheting and other crafts. Ideas will be discussed about knitting for various charities. The Knitting Club meets on the first and third Monday of each month at the library from 6-8 p.m. The club is free. New members are always welcome.The Third Monday Book Club, an adult book club, is being offered at the Palmerton Area Library. The club meets the third Monday of each month at the library from 12-1:15 p.m. Stop in at the library for more information. New members are always welcome. On May 16 the club will discuss "Snow Falling on Cedars" by David Guterson.Yoga classes are continuing at the library. Classes are offered on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. Stop in. New used books arrive daily along with videos, puzzles and CD's. Over 2000 books and videos are available.The Library Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors of the Palmerton Area Library meet the third Wednesday of each month at the library at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. Stop in the library to pick up a membership form or join online and find out opportunities to volunteer and serve the library.The Teen Advisory Group is for students in grades 7-12 and meets at the library after school on the first Wednesday of the month. New members are always welcome. The group is currently remodeling and painting a section of the library basement.Watercolor Classes for Kids has ongoing classes. Call the teacher at 610-824-4962 for more information about signing up.Tail Waggin' Tutors, children reading to dogs sponsored by Therapy Dogs International, Inc. will be at the library every month on the second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Free to all area children but they must register ahead of time for a time slot. Practice your reading skills with no pressure. The next session will be Saturday, May 14 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Call the library to reserve your time slot.The library has started a new volunteer program. Ask at the desk for a volunteer packet and sign up to help shelve books, work in the book sale, decorate the display window, adopt a shelf, help with the teen group, etc. Individuals must be at least 13 years old.The library will hold its First Annual Palmerton Area Library Open-To Keep the Palmerton Area Library Open Golf Tournament to be held at the Blue Ridge Country Club, Monday, June 13. Sign up your team now. Prizes, a dinner buffet and silent auction are all part of the day's events.More computer classes will start on Thursday, June 2. Space is limited. Call today.Homework helpers are available every Wednesday after school until 4:30 p.m. Children can get homework help from trained library volunteers (high school students and former teachers). Parents should register their children in advance by calling the library. This program will continue throughout the school year. More hours may be added in the fall.Be sure to sign your children up for the Summer Reading program. The Kick-off Party will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. with a Kids Rock Concert with Ricky and his band. (No Summer Reading on July 1)The Ending Celebration will be on Friday, July 29, 10:30 a.m. "Bugs, Baboons, and Story Tunes" will be presented by singer and guitarist/banjoist Tom Sieling. It will be humorous and very participatory (sometimes even a bit athletic) with songs for kids that engage the whole family.Adults, teens and kids are encouraged to sign up for the "Read Around the World" contest.
