'South Pacific' to be staged by Jim Thorpe drama club

The Drama Club of Jim Thorpe Area School District will present the musical "South Pacific" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Jim Thorpe Area High School auditorium.

South Pacific was written in 1949 by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.The musical is based off the book "Tales of the South Pacific" by James A. Michener.The story weaves together characters and elements from several stories into a single plotline about an American nurse at a U.S. Naval base, during World War II, who falls in love with an ex-patriot French farmer with a dark past.Hailey Hoherchak has the role of Nellie Forbush while Christian Pringle plays the part of Emile DeBecque.Josiah Behrens, who has been performing in annual musicals at the school for several years, has the part of Luther Billis.Other key roles are Lieutenant Joe Cable as Marc Niccols, Kelee Jo Kleintop as Blood Mary, Jordan Behrens as Liat/Ensign Sue, Brandon Zack as Captain George Brackett, and Chris Boyd as Commander Hardison.Brooke McElmoyle is Ngana, Derrick Beckham is Jerome, Maria Donati is Henrietta/Bessie, and Zeb Kleintop is Stepot/Buzz Adams.Other students in the performance include Alexis Young, Jacob Soto, Marissa Farra, Caitlin Henninger, Rebecca Osbourne, Elizabeth Strauss.Also Shobhan Kleintop, Rachel Nicole, Chandil Fults, Cullin Konta, Lucas Green, Maria Bon Home, and David Havens.The musical is under the direction of Natalie Kmetz.
