Schuylkill Township supervisors want to recognize any residents of the township who are currently serving in the military, particularly if they are coming home. Acknowledging US Army Specialist Marc Habel, of MaryD, who was recently home for a two week leave, chairman of the board, Linda DeCindio said that they wished they had known about Habel's visit, because they would like to hang the American flags in honor of any service personnel who are home. In the future, DeCindio asked family members to contact the township to make the arrangements.

Police chief Jesse Zimmerman advised township residents that incidents of theft are on the rise in the area and cautioned everyone to be wary of suspicious activity and report anything unusual to the police department. Zimmerman said that there is an answering machine in the office and all complaints are followed up.DeCindio thanked the residents of Tuscarora for participating in a survey which was required to apply for CDBG (community block development grant) funds which will hopefully benefit the Tuscarora fire company. DeCindio said that approximately 98 percent of the residents complied with the survey.DeCindio thanked Joe McDonald and members of the Nathan Kevan family for their efforts to keep the township litter free and spruced up. DeCindio noted that thanks to the vigilant efforts of supervisor Charles Hosler, the township was able to save $2,150 in oil costs related to heating the township building.Hosler announced that pothole patching will continue throughout the township and grass cutting has begun. The township will once again receive assistance from the county through the CareerLink program, which provides one worker to the township for 30 hours a week through the summer, and through the work release program. Laborers will be working on the back road from Newkirk to Reevesdale in upcoming weeks and supervisors asked that traffic be kept to a minimum at that time.There will be a 5K run/walk along parts of township roads this weekend, including old 209. Supervisors asked that residents restrain their dogs during that time.The supervisors held a moment of silence in honor of former supervisor Maureen Vanek, who passed away last month.
