A 35-year-old Jim Thorpe native has been named postmaster in Summit Hill Borough. Gerald Haggerty Jr. assumed command of the office this week. He succeeds Norman Serena, who held the post for 30 years before retiring last Nov. 30. Haggerty is following in the footsteps of his father, Gerald "Pap" Haggerty Sr., who was postmaster in Jim Thorpe in the 1970s. The new postmaster is an 11 year veteran of the Postal Service, starting in 1980 as a letter carrier in Lehighton.
