For the time being, pothole repairs in Summit Hill have been put on hold.

And, the cleaning of the borough police station also is in limbo.That's because the borough's two full-time maintenance workers are both off work due to surgery, it was reported during last night's borough council meeting.Councilman Bill Chapman said it's not certain when the workers will return to work.Chief of Police Joe Fittos said the police station needs cleaning. He suggested bringing in a part-time officer to clean it.The council nixed the idea with Chapman commenting, "We just don't have the money."Chapman suggested that high school students who have to perform community service to graduate might consider cleaning the police station as a project.Fittos said this was done in the past but the cleaning wasn't very thorough.Also, he said the students must have supervision when doing such a project."We need someone in the police station when it occurs," said Council President Joe Weber.He added that it is important the police station be cleaned, adding, "It's something that has to happen. Somehow. Some way."The borough workers had also been responsible for cleaning the rest of the borough hall. There was no discussion regarding the borough hall cleaning.In other business:• Joe Bolez of 17 N. Pine St. complained about two tickets police issued to him regarding him parking in his driveway. Weber told him that such complaints should be handled either through the mayor or the magistrate.Fittos produced photos indicating that Bolez had his vehicle extended over the sidewalks, forcing pedestrians to walk in the street. Pine Street is Route 902, a narrow, busy thoroughfare. The police chief said sidewalks can't be blocked by vehicles.• Fittos will draw up an ordinance proposal mandating that all police officers wear bullet-proof vests while on duty. He said such an ordinance is a requirement to obtain funding for the purchase of the vests.• The council, by a 5-1 vote, hired Barry Isett and Associates of Trexlertown to review the plans for a new ambulance station. The only negative vote was from councilman Michael Alabovitz, who said that the Isett firm is also the building inspector in the borough and that this could be a conflict of interest for approving the plans.It was noted that the Ambulance Association had hired Ron Tirpak and Associates as its architect for the plans. Tirpak is the borough's engineer, so he informed the borough it would have to hire another firm to do the review. Weber abstained from voting, noting he is an employee of Tirpak.• Scott Peterson of East Fell Street was appointed to a two-year term on the Summit Hill Recreation Commission.• A property on East Hazard Street was added to the garbage collection exemption list. This was approved by a 6-1 vote with councilman Michael Kokinda opposed.• The council approved the use of the gazebo in Ludlow Park for a wedding on Sunday, April 17, at 2 p.m.• Approval was given for the Anthracite Triathlon to be held on July 17.• The Summit Hill girls softball team was granted approval to use a field from April until Aug. 1.
