A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Wednesday after he assaulted two state troopers and was found to have in his possession numerous weapons although he is not allowed to possess any type of firearms.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the suspect as Michael Lucas, 56, of Auburn.According to troopers about 8:11 a.m. Trooper Allyssa Becker observed Lucas driving a 2007 Fort truck along SR443, in Pine Grove Township, weaving in and out of traffic while westbound.Becker made a traffic stop. Trooper Thomas Curtis, who was in the area, also arrived at the scene.Lucas exited the truck on his own and confronted the two troopers while they requested his license and registration. Lucas was asked where his documents were located and he attempted to go back into his truck. At this point the troopers observed two loaded guns in plain view inside the truck.Lucas was escorted away from his truck before he had the opportunity to obtain the loaded guns. At this point, troopers said, he assaulted Becker and Curtis.The two troopers had to use their taser guns to restrain him. He was then placed in custody. Troopers said while they were subduing Lucas he uttered that he had more guns at his residence.Troopers then obtained a search warrant for his home in Wayne Township. An additional 20 long guns and two handguns were recovered in the home as well as an assortment of ammunition. Two of the long guns had altered serial numbers. Troopers added that Lucas' criminal history prohibits him from possessing firearms.Lucas was arraigned before duty District Judge David Plachko, of Port Carbon, on two counts each of aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of firearm with altered manufacturer's numbers, altering or obliterating marks of identification, firearms not to be carried without a license, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was also charged with 24 counts of persons not to possess a firearm.Lucas was committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $100,000 straight cash bail set by Plachko.
