Casimir "Caszy" Kosciolek of Lake Hauto has announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of Magisterial District Judge in the Carbon County Magisterial District 56-3-03, which covers the boroughs of Lansford, Nesquehoning, and Summit Hill.

Kosciolek, a Democrat, has filed nomination petitions to have his name appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots in the May 17 Primary Election.Kosciolek won a 10-person race on both the Democratic and Republican ballots in the May Primary Election in 1999. He was appointed by then Gov. Tom Ridge to begin his term in October of that year due to the fact that the District Justice seat was vacant upon the retirement of District Justice Irene Hudasky at the end of 1998.Kosciolek is a 1981 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Hometown. He is a 1982 post-graduate of Massanutten Military Academy, Woodstock, Va. He received a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice/sociology in 1986 from Bloomsburg University. He became certified as a District Justice by the Minor Judiciary Board in September 1999 and has maintained his certification annually.Following graduation from college, Kosciolek was a professional baseball umpire in the New York-Penn and Florida State Leagues for four years.For five years he worked as Work Release and Treatment Director at the Carbon County Correctional Facility. He was actively involved in the transition from the prison on Broadway in Jim Thorpe to the current prison in Nesquehoning in 1995.For three years, he was employed by the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit as a mental health worker, providing students and their families with mental health counseling in the Carbon and Lehigh County school districts.In 2004, he was inducted into the first class of the Marian Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in playing four different sports in four years in high school.He was recently hired as the head coach of the Tamaqua boys basketball team.He is married to theformer Betteanne Luckoof Bear Creek Lakes, Penn Forest Township. Thecouple has two children, Brett, 13, and Carly, 10.
