Yep, despite cold temperatures, those pesky marmorated stink bugs, aka Halyomorpha halys, still remain and their population continues to grow after their first appearance in Allentown in early 2001. A primary agricultural pest in Japan, the bug earned its negative label from a poignant chemical produced by its scent glands. Another oddity of its body chemistry is the production of an antifreeze-like chemical that keeps it alive in cold weather. When they invade your home, you'll know it, as they make loud buzzing sounds when they fly and other noises as they fly into things. Even though they are easy to catch or vacuum, they still a flying nuisance. The invasion was thought to be limited to the Allentown area but other parts of the country are also dealing with these flying bugs.
