Shifferts propel NL

The Shiffert brothers combined to lead Northern Lehigh to an easy soccer victory to highlight Wednesday's rain reduced scholastic sports schedule.

Channing Shiffert and Zeb Shiffert both scored hat-tricks to help spark Northern Lehigh to a 9-0 Colonial League victory over visiting Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

Channing became the first Bulldog in the program's history to score 50 career goals .

Thatcher George just missed out on a hat-trick as he finished with two goals, while Ryan Perkowski added a single score.

Northern Lehigh improves to 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the league. Notre Dame remains winless at 0-11 (0-9 CL).


Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley remained unbeaten in Mountain Valley Conference play with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21 win over Stroudsburg.

The Bears' Breanna Joseph had a career high 25 kills as well as 10 blocks. Steph Schmitt finished with 18 assists and seven digs; MacKenzie Dorney chipped in with 10 digs and three kills; and Kiersten Griesback added 14 assists for Pleasant Valley.

Pleasant Valley improves to 6-0 in the MVC. Stroudsburg falls to 4-2 in the conference.

North Schuylkill

In a Schuylkill League tri-meet at North Schuylkill, the Tamaqua girls' and North Schuylkill boys posted sweeps.

The Jim Thorpe girls and boys both scored splits.

Amber Carroll paced the Lady Raiders with a first-place finish in a time of 20:51, while teammate Kelsey Patrick and the Lady Olympians Caitlin Liscinski followed in second and third.

The Olympians earned the lone victory for the local boys knocking off back-yard rival Raiders 15-50.

Chris Boyd crossed the finish line in third place for the Olympians, while the Raiders' David Frederick finished in 13th.
