Palmerton Area Library announces winners
For the past three months colorful flags and paper chains have decorated the Palmerton Area Library. Over 400 participants in the "Read Around the World" Contest have been reading books and adding links to the chain in their team colors. The contest concluded Sept. 1 and the following winners have been selected: Adults (Team Israel) 1st place-Kay Goodhile; 2nd place-Michael Blichar, 3rd place-Leslie Meckes. Grades 7-12 (Team Brazil): 1st place-Lila Goodhile, 2nd place-Vithusla Selva, 3rd place-Aaron Bowman. Grades 4-6 (Team Norway): 1st place-Erica Messics; 2nd place-Haley Miller; 3rd place-Rahan Selva. Grades 1-3 (Team Mexico): 1st place-Dan Sharp; 2nd place-Montana Costenbader; 3rd place-Elizabeth Sterner. Preschool and Kindergarten (Team Canada); 1st place-Gwen Shellhammer; 2nd place-Luke Drake; 3rd place-Porter Keill.
Congratulations to all the winners and to all the other participants who spent so much time reading this summer. Students from 34 different schools participated in this reading program at the Palmerton Area Library.
During the six week summer reading program, students in grades 2-6 learned about Heifer International and the work they do around the world. Enough money was collected by the students to purchase a goat for a family in Africa through this organization.
Regular story time hours have resumed at the library in September. Free story hours for preschoolers are presented every Friday at 10:30 a.m. during the school year. No advance registration is necessary and all are welcome.
Computer classes for senior citizens are being offered again at the library. There will be classes for beginners, intermediate classes and classes for those interested in digital photography. Please call the library at 610-826-3424 for more information about any of these programs.
