Panthers, Fillies get volleyball victories

Panther Valley and Marian both pulled out victories on the voleyball court on Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALLLehighton-Saucon ValleyThe Lady Panthers pulled out a close match over Lehighton in five games, 19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 21-25, 15-9.The locals were led by the efforts of Krista Rehrig, who had 21 assists and nine digs, while teammate Natalie Zurn had 20 digs and an ace in the losing effort.Lehighton (0-1), will play host to Catasauqua tomorrow night.Panther Valley-Schuylkill HavenPV bolted out early and managed to defeat the Hurricanes, 25-4, 25-15, 25-10.Amy Yusella led the offense with 11 kills, with Chrissy Micholik adding six kills, 16 service points, four aces and eight assists, and Marley Milkovich providing two aces.PV (1-0, 2-0 overall), also won the JV contest, 25-10, 25-15, and will host Pine Grove tomorrow evening.Weatherly-MarianThe Fillies breezed past the Lady Wreckers, 25-11, 25-16, 25-8, in straight sets.MaryKate Sherkness had an impressive outing with 19 kills, three aces and three digs, with Abby O'Donnell dishing out 30 assists. Nikki Collevechio had two kills, seven aces and nine digs, with Emily Tilla contributing three kills, two aces and five digs.For Weatherly, Sarah Dolinsky had seven digs, an ace and a kill, with Alicia Panzarella's six digs, one kill and two blocks and Kirsten Ursta's six digs, two assists and a block.Marian also won the JV contest, 25-21, 19-25, 25-5, and will travel to Shenandoah Valley tomorrow night. Weatherly travels to Hazelton tonight for a non-league match-up.No. Schuylkill-Jim ThorpeThe Spartans wound up beating the Olympians in all three games by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-10.Riley Carroll had 28 assists, Melissa Weber two kills and Shannon Green five blocks for the Olympians.Jim Thorpe returns to action tomorrow night at Blue Mountain.
