Six area volunteer groups receive Parrot Head funds
The Black Diamond Parrot Head Club of Summit Hill always likes to give back to the community.
The club chose six area fire companies: Good American Fire Company, Washington Hook and Ladder, West End Fire Company, Humane Fire Company, Citizen's Fire Company, and Ryan Township Fire Company, to be this year's recipients. The club honors different fire companies every year, in conjunction with National Fire Awareness Week, which ran from Oct. 9 through 15.
Each fire company was presented with a $500 check.
The donations were raised from the profits of the Black Diamond Parrot Head Club's golf tournament, The Margaritaville Open, which occurred the third Saturday in August at the Mountain Valley Golf Course.
This is the sixth year the club has donated to local fire companies and other emergency organizations.
The Black Diamond Parrot Head Club of Summit Hill is a non-profit organization that helps the community through fundraisers. It was chartered in 2003 and currently has 70 members who are interested in doing community service, while enjoying the music of Jimmy Buffett, whose motto is "Partying With A Purpose." The club is part of a larger network of groups located all over the world.
Since 2007, the club has made over $33,000 in donations to community and volunteer organizations.
Groups that the Parrot Head Club has helped throughout the years include: The American Cancer Society, Carbon County Friends of Animals, Toys for Tots, The Penn State Dance Marathon, local fire departments, and Dream Come True.
