Nesquehoning plans Memorial Day services

The Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 has been planning the Memorial Day festivities for the town.

On Sunday, May 29, the post will visit the outlying ceemteries, starting at the Knauff Memorial on the Broad Mountain around noon. They will then go to the east end of town and then New Columbus and finish at the Hauto Memorial.

On Monday, May 30, the parade forms at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center at 8 a.m. and pulls out promptly at 8:30 a.m.

VFW auxiliary president Amanda Breiner will place the wreath on the VFW Monument at the west end of Catawissa Street. The parade will stop at the WWII Memorial and St. Patrick's Cemetery. The main program will be held at the VFW Post home.

The JROTC cadet speakers are Chelsea Digiglio, Codey Drum, and Lazur Zenon. The guest speaker will be Brian "Fuzzy" Sommers who has served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Refreshments will follow inside the post home for all paraders.
