Washington Twp. makes budgeted donations
Various organizations that requested donations when the budget was being worked on asked for that money to be paid out at the Tuesday meeting of Washington Township supervisors.
Donations went to the Friedens Fire Company, $5,000; Eagle's Nest Association, $500; and the Slatington Library, $2,500.
Secretary JoAnn Ahner said she had received 2010 financial statements from each organization and that they were in order.
The Northern Lehigh Event Committee asked if fire police could help out during the Northern Lehigh Halloween parade, and if some roads could be closed as in previous years. Both were approved.
Resident Ed Ziegler asked why a Jan. 26 Blue Cross payment was less than the Jan. 10 one. Ahner said employees are paying a higher deductible.
Reynold Reinert will serve as assistant sewage enforcement officer in a matter concerning Eagle's Nest. Township SEO Chris Noll cannot work on it because he designed the system.
A resolution was passed restricting supervisors from working full-time for the township. It will take effect the next time a supervisor who presently works for the township has to be reelected and new supervisors will be restricted from working.
Ziegler asked what the township was going to do if supervisors do not work on the roads. Supervisor Josh Friebolin said it is a personnel matter and will not affect the budget.
A resolution was passed permitting employees to participate in the Supplemental Participation Agreement 457b fund which is maintained by the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors.
Zoning permit officer Justin Yaich said resident Kim Bachman requested a waiver in the distance a windmill must be from the property line. It is by ordinance 110 percent of the height of a windmill. Bachman does not have sufficient room and can only have it 44 feet from the line at 4563 Lovers Lane.
Ziegler asked if work was being done on the turnpike bridge near Emerald. Supervisor Gerald Phillips said he has seen workers on the bridge and Supervisor Roy Dengler said a second bridge will be constructed next to the one that is there now.
Ziegler asked if he could get the minutes early but Ahner said they are not given out before the meeting because they are not approved.
