Published June 20. 2011 05:01PM

There was a talking donkey long before Shrek!

And that's what the Torah portion of the service is about when Temple Israel, 194 Bankway St., Lehighton, meets at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, July 8. Rabbi Melody Davis will lead the music of Shabbat along with the impromptu theatrical production of Balaam the Sorcerer and his Donkey.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. for a dairy/vegetarian Shabbat Potluck Dinner.

Contact Vickie Semmel at 610-703-2854 or at by July 6 and to let her know where you are bringing an appetizer, salad, entree, beverage or dessert. (If your dish requires heating, please come at 5:30 p.m.) The use of disposable pans or plates for serving is appreciated.

Temple Israel is also continuing their Mitzvah Project of the donation of canned goods to the Jewish Family Service of the Lehigh Valley Kosher Food Pantry. Everyone attending is asked to bring a can of food to help others.
