Crime watch

The next crime watch meeting is set for Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Nesquehoning Borough hall. People interested in the well-being of their town are welcome to join the group.



The Coaldale TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) chapter meets every Wednesday in the education room at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. Weekly meetings begin at 5:45 p.m. with weigh-ins followed by a short informational program beginning at 6 p.m.

TOPS provides support for those struggling with excess weight and offers ideas on how sensible nutrition, portion control, fun exercise and other lifestyle changes can add quality to your life.

Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge.

Fall baseball

The coaches and parents of the Lansford Little League and Babe Ruth Fall baseball teams are invited to attend a meeting to plan the upcoming season. The meeting will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. at the Lansford field.

Girls' CYO

Girls in grades 5-8 from the Catholic community of St. Katharine Drexel Church, Lansford, are invited to participate in the upcoming CYO volleyball season. Parents can contact Mary Theresa Horvat, (570) 645-2413, for additional information.

Infant baptized

Emily Jeane Bennage, infant daughter of Matthew and Sarah Bennage, was recently baptized into the Catholic faith during a ceremony held at St. Katharine Drexel Church, Lansford.

Summit Hill

Hope of Christ

The worship service for the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, Aug. 14, will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Bloodmobile planned

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will sponsor a visit by the Miller-Keystone Bloodmobile on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Miller-Keystone is the sole provider of blood to the area's hospital.

A goal of 35 pints has been established. Persons planing on donating blood on that day can call the parish rectory to reserve their donor time. Walk-in donors will also be accepted.

Voting concerns

Summit Hill residents who are interested in participating in the 2011 General Election on Nov. 8 have until Oct. 7 to become eligible through registration.

Scripture sharing

The weekly scripture sharing sessions at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will continue this week.

The session will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the parish rectory.
