Bears, Tigers post soccer shutouts

Pleasant Valley and Northwestern recorded shutout victories in girls soccer action on Thursday.

In a softball game, Palmerton doubled up Lehighton.

East Stroudsburg South knocked off Lehighton in Mountain Valley Conference soccer action, 3-1.

The Cavs received goals from Shannon Connors, Mandy Brown and Taylor Fish.

The Indians' (0-5) lone goal was tallied by Amanda Acabou. She was helped by teammate Jordyn Homyak.

Pleasant Valley blanked Pocono Mountain West for a 3-0 Mountain Valley Conference win.

Kayla Dorney sparked the Bears' with two goals while Dana McAllister added the other score. PV's Katie Forte and Dianna Connors contributed assists.

Bears' keeper Sara Elmonticir grabbed three saves on her way to posting the shutout.

Pleasant Valley improves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the MVC.

Sara Jones' hat-trick highlighted Northwestern's commanding 10-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Cassy Yost, Katie Hughes and Rachel Kester each contributed to the Tigers' attack with a goal and an assist.

NW's Sarah Tirpak, Abbey Schneck, Nicole Lach and Meghan Weber chipped in with single scores, while Emily Iobst was credited with an assist.


NDES-Jim Thorpe

Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg handed Jim Thorpe a 4-1 loss.

The only Olympian to win on the day was No. 3 singles player James Denny. Denny won in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (8-6), 7-3.

Despite scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, Weatherly couldn't hold the lead as Nativity rallied for a 7-4 Schuylkill League Division 3 victory.

Taylor Luckenbill picked up the mound win, while also leading Nativity at the plate with 4 RBI.

For Weatherly, Brett Stallone had two hits while Christian Ormistan added two RBI.

Palmerton posted a 10-5 non-league win over Lehighton.

Jenna Ritter paced the Bombers with a single, solo homerun, run scored and a RBI, while Michelle Rickert added a single, triple and a run scored.

The Bombers' Katie Reimer (two singles, two runs scored, RBI), Martina Herring (two singles, run scored, RBI) and Emily Knauss (two singles, two run scored and a RBI) all had big offensive games.

The Indians' Emily Kollar collected a single and a two-run homer.

Palmerton earned its first win of the season (1-2 overall), while Lehighton slips to 0-3.
