This Friday, Dec. 17, Northern Lehigh will honor six individuals in its annual Ring of Honor induction.

The ceremony will take place at halftime of the boys' varsity basketball game between Northwestern and Northern Lehigh in the Northern Lehigh High School gym in Slatington.Below are profiles on all six inductees:Barry EckhartBarry Eckhart graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1979. He was the Cross Country MVP in 1977 and 1978. He earned three varsity letters in Cross Country from 1976-1978. He set four course and school records in cross country, was undefeated in dual meets for two years, and was the Centennial League Meet Champion in 1977 and 1978. In 1977, Eckhart finished first out of 248 runners at the Tri-County Invitational Meet at Lehigh University.Eckhart earned four varsity letters in Track and Field and was undefeated in Dual Meets in 1978 and 1979. He was the Track & Field MVP in 1978 & 1979. In 1978, Eckhart was the Centennial League Meet Champion in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and the 3200 meter relay. Barry was the District 11 1600 meter champion, as well as a member of the winning District 11 3200 meter relay team. In 1979, he was a four-event winner at the Centennial League Meet (800, 1600, 3200, and 3200 relay).In the 1979 PIAA State Championships, he placed fifth in the 1600 meter race setting a new school record - which still stands after 31 years. Eckhart also is a member of the school record Sprint Medley Relay team.He received the Slatington High School Outstanding Male Athlete Award in 1978 and 1979. In 1980 Eckhart was the Freshman Indoor Mile Champion at ESU.Bill JonesBill Jones graduated from Slatington High School in 1961where he excelled in both sports and academics. He received four letters in basketball, is the second highest scorer in men's basketball with 1491 points, team captain in 1960-1961; Lehigh Valley All Star from 1959-61; and earned three letters in baseball.He was a member of the Varsity 5 Club from 1957-1961. Jones was Class President, and a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1965 where he scored 1058 points and at the time of graduation was ranked seventh in all time scoring and was captain of the team his senior year. Jones and his son Brett were the first Father & Son 1,000 point scorers in Slatington/ Northern Lehigh basketball.Bob MorganIn addition to coaching Little League teams in the Northern Lehigh area, Robert Morgan has been taking photographs from the sidelines of the Slatington Slaters and the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs football games since 1960. He then distributes the photographs to the players at no charge. A strong supporter of athletics, Morgan continues to attend various football, basketball, baseball, and softball games and banquets. Morgan graduated from Slatington High School in 1951 where he participated in Student Council, National Honor Society, and the Photography Club.After high school, Morgan became the manager of the Slatington Acme where he employed many Northern Lehigh teenagers. He has coached Little League baseball and softball and has been actively involved in the local Home Run Derby. He currently resides in Walnutport with his wife Margaret.Dick JonesRichard "Dick" Jones graduated from Slatington High School in 1951 and from Kutztown University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He began his coaching career in Basketball at Slatington High School in 1963 serving as Junior Varsity and Assistant Varsity coach.IN 1968 he became Varsity Basketball Head Coach and served in that capacity until 1971. His 1968-69 team set a scoring record for a single game which still stands today (it rang up 104 points in a pre-league game).For the next four years he served as scout for Coach Glenn Rissmiller. From 1976-1984 he coached girls basketball; His 1983-1984 team won the Centennial League Championship, finishing with a record of 21-5. At the time, it was a record for most wins in a season. Dick also served as Assistant Track Coach for 17 years. Over the 1977-78-79 seasons, his 3200 yard relay teams went undefeated in 28 consecutive meets. Included in the streak were two Centennial League Championships. The anchor of those teams was Barry Eckhart, a fellow honoree.He also managed to squeeze in one season as Assistant Baseball Coach. Jones is proud of the fact that he is in his 47th year as clock operator for Bulldog Football. He retired in 1986 after serving the district for 39 seasons in coaching and 30 years as an English Teacher. As he puts it: "I was a Good English Teacher, but I probably could have been Gooder!" Jones spends most of his leisure time golfing and recently took up knittingTrish TreskotTricia Treskot graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1993.As a member of the girls varsity basketball team from 1990-1993 she received numerous awards including The Times News Female Athlete of the Year, Eyewatch News 13 Female Player of the Week, Times News Player of the Week, Morning Call Player of the Year, MVP of the Girls Basketball Christmas Tournament, and Centennial League 1st Team. She was a basketball three-point field goal record holder in 1992-1993 with a season-high 77 and a career-high of 183. Treskot also played varsity softball from 1990-1993 and was named to the Centennial League 1st Team at shortstop. In 1993 she was named NLHS Female Athlete of the Year.Treskot was awarded a four-year partial scholarship at Saint Josephs' University to play girls softball where she was the rookie of the year and the University's Scholar Athlete in 1996-1997. She was co-captain of the softball team in 1997. Currently, she is living in Philadelphia and has started her own company called Trish's Tasks. Treskot is entering her second year as an NCAA umpire.Franklin "Ted" WieandFranklin Delano Roosevelt Wieand graduated from Slatington High School in 1951 where he earned four letters in baseball. In his senior year he had a pitching record of 9-1. He averaged 17 strikeouts a game and pitched four one-hitters. In his last eight victories he allowed only four runs. At the plate, ho often batted clean-up. Wieand was named an "outstanding player" by major league scouts at the junior American Legion All-Star game and qualified to play in the All-East game.After high school Wienand signed a contract with a bonus to play professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played 10 seasons in the minors and parts of five seasons in the majors with the Cardinals, Cincinnati, and New York Yankees. Wieand was the 1958 minor league pitcher of the year for the Havana Cuba Sugar Kings of the International League. After retiring from baseball because of a shoulder injury, he worked as a plumber. He married Joan Chandler Wieand and he and his wife have five children.
