Woman 'tased' in assault incident

A Tamaqua woman chose to be "tased" rather than co-operate with police during a domestic squabble Thursday morning in the borough.

Police were dispatched to 238 E. Broad St., at 3:41 a.m. for a reported domestic disturbance in progress. On scene they spoke with Brian Nattress, who said his sister, Valerie, was beating up on his wife, Tara. Officers found the two women in the living room where Valerie had Tara pinned down on the sofa. When Patrolman Thomas Rodgers tried to remove Valerie she began fighting with him attempting to get away. Even when placed on the floor on her stomach Nattress continued to struggle as the officer attempted to place handcuffs on her wrist. When told she would be tased if she didn't comply, Nattress struggled harder.Cpl. Dwayne Hacker used a five second "drive stun" on Nattress' foot, at which time she immediately became compliant. She was taken into custody and arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, on charges of simple assault and harassment.
