An Allentown man, one of four arrested during a drug sting operation in Jim Thorpe last year, was sentenced to a state prison term this week in Carbon County court.

Christian Ortiz, 20, was sentenced by Senior Judge Richard W. Webb to serve 15 to 36 months in a state correctional facility on a charge of crminal conspiracy-possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Ortiz was arrested on March 25, 2009, in Jim Thorpe, along with three others, also from Allentown, for attempting to sell heroin along Front St. in the borough.Ortiz was one of four in a Honda sedan observed by borough police and members of the county's drug task force attempting to make a drug sale. Arrested with Ortiz was Jose Martinez, 19, Ivan Reyes, 19, and Carlos Gonzales, 23.According to the police report Gonzales and Ortiz exited the vehicle while Martinez and Reyes stayed inside. Gonzales and Ortiz approached a confidential informant, who gave Gonzales $400 to purchase heroin. The CI then was told the heroin was in a cigarette pack on the ground near the vehicle.As police moved in to make an arrest all four suspects attempted to flee the scene in the Honda. The incident and following manhunt for the suspects lasted about two hours before all were eventually taken into custody.In addition to the jail time Webb ordered Ortiz to get his General Education Diploma (GED), have no contact with his co-defendants, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and suppy a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee. He must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.Ortiz was given credit for 240 days spent in jail on the charges and was immediately taken into custody.
