The next meeting of the JROTC of the Panther Valley High School Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. Discussion will include fundraisers and the Christmas party.PV Elementary SchoolThe annual Halloween parade by the students and staff of the Panther Valley Elementary School is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 29. Students will dress in costumes after lunch and the parade will commence from the elementary school at approximately 1:45 p.m.The parade route will follow Rhume Street to the post office, down Catawissa Street to Mermon Avenue and back to the school. The children will sing Halloween songs along the way.P.T.O. volunteers will parade with students and assist with individual classroom parties. The Halloween parade has been organized by Miriam Hoffer and Karen Grebousky, music teachers at the elementary school.RSVP will conduct benefit checkupsRetired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will conduct Individual BenefitsCheckUps at the Carbon County Agency of Aging Panther Valley Senior Nutrition Center, located in the School House Apartments, 90 E. Catawissa Street, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10. This checkup is available free of charge to anyone 55 years or older, or 18 years and older and on disability. The checkup, sponsored by the National Council on Aging, is free and confidential. The goal of the checkup is to help people learn if they are potentially eligible for state, county and federal benefits of which they are unaware.All those people who are interested in learning about BenefitsCheckUp are invited to an informational talk regarding the BenefitsCheckUps Program at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Center. Those wishing to have an individual checkup can sign up for a Nov. 10 appointment at that time. Recreational Organization will hold its Halloween festivities at the Coaldale Complex, Sixth Street entrance, Coaldale, on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.A luncheon will be served with goodies, games, prizes and awards. All children up to age 12 are welcome.There will be a costume parade prior to the festivities beginning at 12:30 p.m. from the Borough Hall, Third Street down to the Coaldale Complex.NesquehoningVFW Ladies AuxiliaryThe VFW Ladies Auxiliary met Oct. 12, at the post home with President Amanda Breiner presiding.Communications received included information on the Mid-Winter Conference, which will be held Jan. 21-22 in Gettysburg.The Post and Auxiliary will again participate in the Wreaths Across America Program, which will be held Dec. 11, at noon, at Fort Indiantown Gap.Ninety cards were sent by members present. Members may also participate in a program for sending Christmas cards to veterans at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Members will be at Redner's Oct. 29-30 and will have Buddy Poppies available for Veterans Day.Members were urged to vote on Nov. 2. One member reported contacting three senators regarding veterans issues.Information on the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen has been given to the school.President Breiner reported that four citations were received at the district meeting in September. They include the Voice of Democracy, Patriot's Pen, Veterans and Family Support and Youth Activities for supporting the local JROTC unit. The next district meeting is Nov. 28 at Tobyhanna.The annual Veterans Day Parade will be held in Palmerton at 2 p.m., Nov. 7. All those planning to attend should be at the post home by noon.Donations were approved for the following: all VA Hospitals sanctioned by the department; Erie Diabetes Walk; and Shepherd House. Fifteen wreaths were approved for the Wreaths Across America Program.Breiner reported that she attended the county Veterans Dinner. Post member William Moskerintz was honored at the affair.The annual Christmas Party will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Lengyel's Restaurant.The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the post home.Navy reunionTeddy Pathroff of Nesquehoning has returned home from attending a reunion with his shipmates from the aircraft carrier

U.S.S. Ranger (CVA/CV-61), in San Antonio, Texas.Pathroff is a plank owner of the Ranger, being part of her first crew members on board in 1957. He was a ship's serviceman and operated a ship's store for four years on board.The Ranger was decommissioned in 1993 and is preserved in excellent condition in Bremerton, Washington State.The

Ranger Reunion Foundation now has a site near Portland, Ore., to dock the carrier and will soon begin to make it into a museum and educational center.Pathroff enjoyed the sights of San Antonio, especially the historic Alamo and the Riverwalk, as well as a stopover in the New Orleans, La., French Quarter. He had as his traveling companion young Luke Hunsicker, who also witnessed all of the historical sights.Summit HillSeeking informationThe Summit Hill Water Authority is setting up an emergency notification system and needs residents' phone numbers, especially residents whose number is unlisted or those who use cell service.
