DINGMANS FERRY - Friday night was the first time since the first game of the season that the Pleasant Valley football team trailed at halftime.

Although his team was down 10-0 after the first quarter and was able to make it a three-point game by the time halftime rolled around, Bears' head coach Jim Terwilliger didn't look at the negative side of the situation. Instead, he turned in into a challenge for his football team.After giving up 124 yards on North's first two possessions, including a 46-yard touchdown run on the Timberwolves' first play from scrimmage, the Pleasant Valley defense made the proper adjustments and buckled down. The Bears gave up just 14 yards and one first down in the second half while beating their Mountain Valley Conference opponent, 21-10."I talked about a lot of things during my halftime speech," said Terwilliger. "The main thing I asked them was how they were going to react to an adverse condition. We faced that tonight with a talented East Stroudsburg North football team. We put ourselves in some situations and I told them that they had one chance left."I wanted to see what this team was made of. My hat is off to the young men that played tonight because they gave the effort and they did it."Pleasant Valley had trouble early on trying to stop North's triple-option attack. Following a three-and-out by the Bears, the T'Wolves got the ball on the PV 46-yard-line. They decided to take their first option by handing it off to Kahaleel Storey up the middle. Storey broke to the outside and ran 46 yards for the score.North did much of the same on its next drive, when it drove 52 yards in seven-and-a-half minutes for a field goal. Storey, along with four other teammates, continuously ran the ball. Storey had a nice run (11 yards), while Joe Clause (10 and 16), Will Quiles (13) and Adrian Sterling (21) also popped big runs.After that the Pleasant Valley defense took over. The Bears switched back-and-forth between a 4-4 and a 5-2 and held the T'Wolves to just two first downs the rest of the way."If any game was going to highlight our defense I thought this game would," said Terwilliger. "I told our defense this was their game and asked them how well they could play. What a tremendous job they did in the second half coming off the ball."Pleasant Valley's offense finally started clicking in the third quarter. The Bears scored on their first two possessions, as Derrik Walling found Rob Getz on touchdown throws of 25 and 14 yards. Despite the gusting wind, Walling finished with 121 yards passing. Getz led the team with five catches for 50 yards."Robert is doing everything for us," Terwilliger said. "He was very ill this week, but he refuses to quit. He plays with as much heart as anybody I have ever seen at any level. He is a tremendous competitor.""The MVC championship runs through East Stroudsburg South," said Terwilliger, who played and coached at South, the Bears' next foe . "For us to be able to strap it up next Friday and play in a big game will be great. It will be a great game. We will give it our best shot and let the chips fall where they may."
