Schuylkill driver seriously injured

A Schuylkill County driver was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash early today that may have been alcohol related. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 4:20 a.m. at the intersection of North Greenview Road and Hemlock Drive, in North Manheim Township.

Troopers said Cory Sorokach, 22, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer eastbound on Hemlock and did not stop for a stop sign at the intersection with N. Greenview.He began to turn right and traveled off the road and onto the east berm of N. Greenview Drive.The vehicle then traveled slightly down an embankment and along the berm for 78 feet before impacting with a tree with the left front.The vehicle came to rest on impact. Sorokach was trapped in the vehicle and it took rescue personnel over two hours to free him, troopers said.Sorokach was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after a landing zone was set up on a parking lot at the Blue Mountain High School.Troopers said a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) is pending against Sorokach.
