Three budgets for the current school year were adopted by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 School Board at its monthly meeting held Monday evening at the Maple Avenue Campus in Marlin, Norwegian Township.

A budget for non public instructional was adopted in the amount of $559,930, which includes salaries for seven professionals, $188,181; purchase of professional services, $239,459 plus communications, travel, general supplies, books and periodicals. Anticipated revenue includes $545,794 from state subsidy and auxiliary services.A budget for Title 1 NonPublic programs was adopted in the amount of $92,138.77, which includes $83,007.90 for contract professional services which will be reimbursed by district subsidies.A budget for Title 1 Non-Public Stimulus Funding Carryover was adopted in the amount of $12,307.60 which includes $7,307.60 for general supplies and $5,000 for equipment.The board approved payment to two districts, Pottsville Area, $3,084.18 and Minersville Area, $240 for instructional services and supplies utilized during the first quarter of the current school after school program. The costs are covered by grants from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.An expenditure of $15,000 was approved for the Artist in Education Program provided by the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts. The program is available to all member districts.Mary Ann Hess, part-time cafeteria worker at the Maple Avenue Campus, has retired and Angela Hoppes Strokelitus, part time teacher aide at the Maple Avenue Campus resigned to accept employment elsewhere.Robert Mariano, New Ringgold, was hired from the Guest Teacher Program as a substitute teacher for the Schuylkill Technical Center and Deana Vargas, Mahanoy City, as a substitute cafeteria worker.Service agreements were approved with Minersville Area for $25,000 and for Williams Valley for $18,000 to provide 21st Century Teaching and Learning with technology coaches. A contract was entered with the American Red Cross, of Pottsville, to provide CPR/AED first aid certification for the Counsel House and Operations PLUS staff at a cost of $1,745. An agreement was entered with Ann Katona, Independent Consultant, Paxinos, for 2010-2011 school year to certify two TAC staff to become trainers in Competent Learner Model (CLM) for 150 hours at cost not to exceed $10,800 which will be paid from the IDEA funds which will not impact district budgets.Lori Mazloom, New Philadelphia, approved to complete a social work internship with the IU for the current school year.Regina Sofsky-Cassell, Hometown, granted permission to complete her student teaching requirement at the Maple Avenue Campus. She is a graduate student at Alvernia University and her assignment will be an elementary emotional support classroom.An agreement was entered with Catapult Learning, LLC, Philadelphia, for $239,459 for providing Act 89 services for the non-public and private schools in the county. An agreement was entered with Temple University, Philadelphia, for $15,000 to conduct an asset assessment for the non-public and private school districts in the county and in the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Consortium.The board accepted the resignation of Dr. William Krash, Shenandoah, School to Work Coordinator; and Nicole Keating, co-advisor for Skills USA.Karen Phillips, Coaldale, was hired as a part-time evening CPR/First Aid/AED training instructor at $25 per hour and Ethel Dougherty, Pottsville, as part-time evening Medical Office and Health Careers Instructor at $22 per hour.The board is seeking bids for the North Campus, near Frackville, for a ceiling installation project.
