7 placed in ARD program by Carbon Co. Court

Carbon County judges on Thursday placed seven people in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) program. The program is for first-time offenders charged with non-violent crimes who waive their right to a trial. In turn, they are placed on probation and may have their records cleared once they complete the program.

Those placed by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II were:Chase S. Edwards, 25, and David M. Leary, 26, both of Philadelphia, who were charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer by state police at Pocono. Edwards and Leary rode their motorcycles at 96 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Penn Forest Township on June 6, according to police.Both were accepted into the ARD program for six months. Each also must pay the $350 cost of the program, a $50 monthly probation fee and perform 15 hours of community service.Those placed by Senior Judge Richard W. Webb were:Tyler Scott Grohotolski, 21, of Palmerton, who was charged with receiving stolen property. He was charged by Palmerton police on May 15. Grohotolski was placed on ARD for one year. He must pay his share of restitution, the amount of which has yet to be determined, pay the $350 cost of the program and court costs, and perform 15 hours of community service.David K. Kaul, 50, of Walnutport, charged with driving under the influence by Palmerton police on June 11 after being stopped on Route 248. His blood alcohol content was 0.23 percent.Kaul was placed on ARD for one year. His license was suspended for 60 days, and he must pay the $450 cost of the program and court costs, and perform 15 hours of community service.Curtis B. Massi, 35, of Kunkletown. He was charged with driving under the influence by state police at Lehighton on April 21 after being stopped on Route 209 in Franklin Township.Massi was placed on ARD for one year. His license was suspended for 30 days, and he must pay the $400 cost of the program and court costs, and perform 14 hours of community service.Theodore Edward Strohl, 46, of Slatington, was charged with driving under the influence by state police at Lehighton on April 30 on Route 248.Strohl was placed on ARD for one year. His license was suspended for 30 days, and he must pay the $400 cost of the program and court costs, and perform 15 hours of community service.Russell E. Austin, 31, of Jim Thorpe, who was charged with driving under the influence by Lehighton police on May 29. Austin was placed on ARD for one year. His license was suspended for 30 days, and he must pay the $400 cost of the program and court costs, and perform 13 hours of community service.Peter R. Abbruzzi, 45, of Lehighton, pleaded to fraud by altering or forging title, registration or inspection. The charges were filed by Lehighton police and stemmed from an incident on June 28 on the Keystone parking lot.Abbruzzi was placed on ARD for one year. He must pay the $350 cost of the program and court costs, and perform 15 hours of community service.
