Before and after

Pictured are before and after photos of 200-202 East Broad Street in Tamaqua. Currently, the building is occupied by AAA Travel on left and the Tamaqua Times News Branch Office on the right. AAA moved into the building in 1972 and the Times News moved in sometime after. The older pictured was taken in the late 1940s or early 1950s when Genetti's Super Center occupied both sides of the building. If you look close, you'll notice that some of the women are wearing jackets and wedgie heel sandals. Besides the large crowd waiting to get inside the store, you'll also notice the "Welcome Firemen" banner hanging above their heads. The flyers on the storefront windows advertise Genetti's 50th year, in addition to cheap prices, like a gallon of Clorox bleach for only 18 cents, four containers of milk for only 55 cents, and pickles for only 42 cents. The horse post in the center of the older photo also appears to be used as a mailbox post instead of horses. This photo provided courtesy of the Tamaqua Historical Society, which stores thousands of older photos for the public to view at the Tamaqua Historical Society Museum in Tamaqua.
