The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from several sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols held in Schuylkill County in recent weeks.

A checkpoint was set up Sept. 3 in St. Clair with officers contacting a total of 1,163 vehicles. Of the 56 motorists detained, four operators were tested for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. Two adults were arrested for DUI offenses. Officers also issued 25 traffic citations, made four criminal arrests and issued 40 warnings. Five county law enforcement agencies were represented by 13 officers.A checkpoint was held Sept. 4 in Schuylkill Haven with 1,257 vehicles contacted. Of the 58 motorists detained, 13 were tested for DUI. Officers arrested six adults for DUI related offenses. They also issued 39 traffic citations, three seat belt citations, made two criminal arrests and issued 23 warnings. Six departments were represented by 20 officers.A Roving DUI patrol was conducted on Sept. 10 when officers from three departments contacted and detained 30 motorists. One operator was tested, but no one was arrested for DUI. Officers also issued 13 traffic citations, one seat belt violation, made two criminal arrests and issued 15 warnings.On Sept. 11, a Roving DUI patrol was held with three officers representing three departments. Officers contacted and detained 32 vehicles, but no one was tested for suspected DUI. Officers did make one underage drinking arrest, issued 15 traffic citations, made three criminal arrests and issued 17 warnings.Roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints will also be conducted through Sept. 19 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
