Chestnuthill Township resident, Maureen Tatu, asked the township board of supervisors if anything was going on with the old Mike's Pizza site, located along Rt. 209.

Chuck Gould, supervisor chairman, stated that the board didn't't know anything."All the permits requested were given last March. I don't know what's going on," he said.Cathy Martinelli, township office manager said she heard there was a conflict with the owners, two brothers. One wanted to sell the property, the other wants to rebuild.The site is where three businesses were located, Mike's Pizzeria, New Winner Chinese Restaurant and Chocolateers. It was destroyed by fire and an explosion on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2008.Chris Eckert, supervisor, said that the township gets a bad rap on this."Rumors are that we're (the township) is holding things up, preventing them from rebuilding. But the permits needed to do that were approved long ago."Mike's Pizzeria Italian Restaurant has moved to another location at Mountain Crest Plaza on Rt. 115, Mt. Effort. New Winner has relocated to the Pleasant Valley Plaza under the new name of Wing Wah.Tatu also asked if it's true that a Walmart is coming to the Brodheadsville area.Gould said that Metro Development (now Grosso Holdings) approached the township about a year and a half ago and talked about building a box store, like a home improvement store or a Walmart, in the field next to West End Lanes Bowling Center in the West End Plaza, along Rt. 209. They were in for a few workshops and did do work on site for storm water."Nothing formal has come in to the township for plans. What they say and what they do ...?" Gould said as he shrugged his shoulders.Bernie Kozen, Executive Director of West End Park & Open Space Commission gave a report: The summer volleyball league has five teams and will run until Aug. 19; Art classes had five artists participate in the "Summer Still Life" program and four in the "National Parks"; the Patriotic coloring contest on Saturday, July 10 had 18 entrants; the Star Gazing on Saturday, July 17 had 18 participants and "it didn't not rain!"; 29 artists participated in the Art in the Park event on Sunday, July 25; the Zumba Fitness Class has 27 participants and runs through Aug. 18.Upcoming park programs: Geocaching "High Tech Treasure Hunt, Saturday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; Pohoqualine Walk with Don Miller, Sunday, Aug. 29, 1-4 p.m.; Elk bus trip to Elk Scenic Drive in northeast PA, Saturday, Oct. 9, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.Kozen reported that the basketball court retaining wall was done and that the court's water problem is being addressed by Chris McDermott.In other township business, with all three supervisors approving:*Three bids were opened for 3,422 tons of In-Place road materials: Slusser Brothers, $257,334.40; Hanson Aggregates PA, $236,802.40; Livengood Excavators, $252,577.82. The bid was awarded to Hanson Aggregates PA.*A donation of $2,000, the same amount given last year, to the Litter Control and Beautification Program. Martinelli stated that the group collected 550 bags of litter over the last 18 months, 33 tires and dozens of dead deer.*$100 to the Western Pocono Jaycees for the PV All Sports Program brochure.*Paying half for June O'Neill, township tax collector, to attend an upcoming PA tax collector conference, which has been budgeted.
