THS Class of 1953 hosts picnic

The Class of 1953 of Tamaqua High School held its annual class picnic on Saturday, June 26. There were 41 classmates and 17 guests in attendance.

Classmates and guests attending were Alma Schaeffer Fisher and husband and classmate Bob Fisher, Phyllis Bower Pruett, Nancy Knepper Nunemacher, Louie Konstas, Shirley Lauer Milot, Joan Robertshaw Shilko, Shirley Schuetrumpf Reigel, Ruth Millet Betz, Kenneth Nunemacher, Barbara Oberman Starry, Ida Sinn Piccin, Geraldine Briener Balliet, Kenneth Campbell, Marlene Cutter Turner, Nancy Frey Pasho, Claire Fagan Stancavage, Joan Gober Tracy, Jean Rinker Stephens, Nancy Hoffman Dreisbach, Marie Kistler Gursky, Curt Williams, Ronny Zimmerman, Marion Aiken Miller, Joan Ames Davis, Jean Heisler Chaballa, Beverly Krell Oberman, Faye Heffelfinger Gross, Donald Tyson, Gloria Kline Burrell, Mary Swank Brown, Dorothy Uzick Stafiniak, Floyd Berk and wife and classmate Romayne Postupack Berk, Ronald Guy, Edward Biskis, Robert Kantner, Edward Price, Mae Stribic McKeever and Robert Wetterau.The picnic was catered by Hess Catering of Schuylkill Havene.Picnic co-chairman Curt Williams conducted a brief business meeting during the affair and announced that in the year since the last picnic the class has lost three more members. They were Rodney "Deet" Werley, Catherine Haggerty Orach, and Nancy "Cookie" Madden MacMorran. Through a trust set up anonymously by a classmate at the Tamaqua Public Library, book memorials were established for each in their memory, from the Class of 1953 of Tamaqua High. The class has now lost 48 of its members.Those serving on the Picnic 2010 committee were co-chairwoman Alma Schaeffer Fisher, Nancy Hoffman Dreisbach, Marion Aiken Miller, Nancy Knepper Nunemacher, Nancy Frey Pasho, Jean Rinker Stephens, Phyllis Bower Pruett, Ida Sinn Piccin, Joan Gober Tracy, Mae Stribic McKeever, Shirley Lauer Milot, Joan Robertshaw Shilko, Robert Fisher, Louie Konstas, Curt Williams, Floyd Berk and Ronny Zimmerman.A memory brick salvaged from the old high school when it was torn down to make way for the John and Dorothy Morgan Center for Higher Learning, and where Lehigh County Community College has an annex, was donated by Dorothy Deisenroth Raggio. The brick went to Jean Rinker Stephens in a raffle.Several classmates made monetary donations to the class funds. They were Floyd Berk and wife Romayne Postupack Berk, Eddie Price, Shirley Schuetrumpf Reigel, William Rarick, Robert Kantner, and Ronald Guy, as well as two anonymous donations. Other donations included first class stamps from Curt Williams and picnic supplies from Alma and Robert Fisher.Louie Konstas donated a set of photographs that he took and they were scanned and sent out via e-mail to many classmates who couldn't make it to the picnic.The use of the grove was donated by classmate Ronny Zimmerman.Another picnic is planned for next year on June 25, 2011.
