Two Tamaqua area men were among 10 who entered guilty pleas recently before Judge Jacqueline Russell in Schuylkill County court and were sentenced as follows:

John S. Roberts, 48, of 22 Ryan Avenue, Tamaqua R.D., pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and was sentenced to serve 72 hours in the county prison last Thursday and was released on completion of his minimum sentence. He will be on parole for six months, pay a fine of $1,000, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA), $50 to Catastrophe fund and perform 20 hours of community service. His driver's license is also suspended for 12 months and he must enroll and complete the alcohol highway safety school and submit to random alcohol tests.On two summary charges, failing to drive on the right side of the road and failing to activate his turning signals when required was fined $50 plus $100 costs. Roberts was cited by Patrolman Brian Thompson, Rush Township police, on April 29, 2009, when stopped on Mahanoy Avenue and Ridge Street.Vincent Edward Owens, 32, of 13 Piersol Street, Tamaqua R.D., pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and was placed on probation for 12 months and ordere to pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, perform 40 hours of community service and make restitution of $176 to Bethlehem Regional Lab. Owens was cited by Trooper Robert Ligon in Tamaqua last Dec. 16.Denise M. Hubler, 44, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in the county prison beginning Aug. 2 at 7:30 a.m., pay a fine of $1,000, $300 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center and perform 20 hours of community service. Her driver's license is suspended 12 months and she must successfully complete the alcohol highway safety school and outpatient counseling. She had previouisly been enrolled in the Accelerated Rehabilative Disposition (ARD) probation program which was revoked and now the citation remains on her record for life. She was cited by Patrolman Richard Pugh, Pottsville police, on June 7, 2008.Robert Warren McFarland, 39, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to a charge of defiant trespass on private property of the Pottsville Housing Authority and was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay $50 to CJEA and perform 20 hours of community service.Bradley D. Rieker, 29, Quakertown, pleaded guilty to operating his car without the interlock device ordered by court to be placed on the steering wheel to monitor any alcohol consumption by the operator. He was placed on probation for 12 months, pay a fine of $500, pay $50 to CJEA, and perform 20 hours of community service. On a charge of improperly using his multi-beam lighting was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Rieker was cited by Patrolman Charles Blesse, Coaldale police, last Sept. 2.Nicole Shoop, 25, Ashland, pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct which was brought by Chief Adam Bernodin Jr., Ashland police, last Sept. 3. He was placed on probation six months, pay $50 to CJEA and perform 20 hours of community service.Anthony James Cress, 24, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to burglary of the home of Mary Cress, 433 E. Mahanoy Ave., Girardville, last Dec. 9 and was sentenced to serve six to 23 months in the county prison, pay $50 to CJEA, perform 20 hours of community service, make restitution of $1,340 to the victim and cannot have any contact with the victim during his probation tenure. He was cited by Trooper James Cuttita.Cress also pleaded guilty to a charge of loitering and prowling at night in the Pottsvile and was placed on probation for 12 months, pay $50 to CJEA and perform 20 hours of community service. Cress was cited by Patrolman Brian Kotzmoyer, Pottsville police.Gloria Rita Holmes, 43, Mount Carmel, pleaded guilty to retail theft of four shirts from Sears Store, Schuylkill Mall, Frackville, on June 12, 2009. The charge was reduced to a summary offense and she was fined $100.John Robert Sanders, 34, Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a charge of DUI and was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in the county prison last Friday and after he completes his minimum senence was granted parole for six months, pay a fine of $1,000, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, attend the alcohol highway safety school, receive outpatient substance abuse counseling and perform 20 hours community service. His driver's license is suspended 12 months. Sanders was cited by Patrolman Frank DeMarco, Saint Clair police, on July 4, 2009.Robert Besparis, 47, Shenandoah, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to serve 10 days to six months in the county prison, pay a fine of $1,000, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, successfully complete the alcohol highway safety school, obtain drug and alcohol evaluation and comply to any recommended treatment and driver's license suspended 12 months. On a charge of driving while his license was suspended was fined $200, disregarding the proper traffic lane fined $25 and careless driving fined $25 plus $150 in costs. Besparis was cited by Trooper Michael Breznik on Yatesville Road in Mahanoy Township on Feb. 19, 2006. He received credit for serving 82 days in prison.Each defendant must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
