Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile is scheduled for this week in Tamaqua, just as the nation is faced with a critical shortage in the blood supply. The demand for lifesaving blood products doesn't decrease in the hot summer months, although the number of donors can decrease due to scheduled vacations, etc.The bloodmobile will be in the Tamaqua Salvation Army gym, from 1 to 6 p.m. this Wednesday. This visit is being sponsored by Marion Fetterman of Professional Massage Therapy.Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood. Tips for a successful donation during the current heat wave include: drink extra water and non-alcoholic beverages; avoid caffeine; get a good night's sleep before donating blood; wear cool, loose clothing; eat a healthy meal before arriving at the donation center; and drink plenty of fluids after donating blood.During July, blood donors will be treated to a coupon for a free carton of Friendly's ice cream.Every two seconds, someone in this country needs blood. Accident victims, cancer patients and patients with a host of other blood diseases/disorders count on donors for their very lives. Someone you know may be counting on blood donors, either now or in the future. In one hour, donors could be saving as many as three individuals. Please consider giving the "gift of life" this Wednesday at the Salvation Army.Bethany VBSVacation Bible School will be held this week at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
