Jim Thorpe man pleads guilty in 3 pending cases

A Jim Thorpe man pleaded guilty on Thursday in three pending criminal cases in Carbon County court. He was one of five defendants to enter guilty pleas before Senior Judge Richard W. Webb.

Sentence deferredJoseph McConnell III, 39. who also lists an address in Staten Island, N.Y., pleaded guilty to one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude police, criminal mischief-damage to property, and theft by unlawful taking-moveable property. Webb accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing ordering a presentence investigation (PSI) be prepared by the adult probation office.The fleeing charge stems from an incident that occurred on June 25, 2009, along White Bear Drive in Summit Hill. Borough police clocked his vehicle going 76 miles-per-hour in a 55 zone and attempted to stop him but he fled. He was eventaully caught and charged.The mischief count stems from an incident on April 28, 2009, at the Holiday Pocono in Albrightsville where he was accused of causing an estimated $1,590 in damages.The theft incident occurred on Oct. 19, 2007, in Jim Thorpe where he is accused of taking a 1994 Ford sedan owned by Timothy Yeakel.Other pleasOther defendants who entered pleas before Webb included:Guy Francis Hartman, 46, of Ashfield, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on Oct. 3, 2009, along Bridge St., in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .15BAC.Webb deferrred sentencing to a later date.Donna Marie Kierman, 19, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of theft. She was charged for an incident on Oct. 9, 2009, at 39 Club House Rd., in the Indian Mountain Lakes development in Penn Forest Township. She was accused of taking food and alcohol from the residence of Elizabeth Tucci.Webb placed her on probation for a year and ordered she pay restitution of $750.Robert Stephen Pierce, 49, Slatington, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Dec. 18, 2009, along Blue Mountain Road, in East Penn Township. Given a test, the result was .24BAC.Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.Todd Donald Rehrig, 44, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on March 21 along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. He refused a test and will lose his license for a year for the refusal.Webb sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for another year, and get a D&A evaluation.All defendants must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
