Frederick Daqua King, 38, 213 E. Bertsch St. Apt. 1, Lansford, faces charges from an incident which took place on May 24 at 2:15 a.m. at Turkey Hill in the borough. Charges were filed by Officer Jason Helmer. King is charged with resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and two counts of persistent disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned before District Judge Bruce Appleton, of Palmerton, and jailed under $15,000 percentage bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2.According to an affidavit of probable cause, Helmer was in the convenience store parking lot monitoring suspicious activity involving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee. He and Office Jeff Ohl had prior contact with the occupants of the vehicle after receiving a report of suspicious activity in the 200 block of East Bertsch Street at about 1:40 a.m.Helmer saw a green Chevrolet Blazer with one occupant pull into the lot and park next to the Cherokee. The Jeep driver got out and approached the driver of the Blazer several times. Helmer wrote that he saw the man go back and forth from the passenger side of the Jeep, where he spoke with a female passenger, and return to the driver's side of the Blazer.He then saw a black male exit the driver's side of the Blazer and enter the store. Upon exiting the store the male in the Jeep approached the black male again and there was some type of interaction, Helmer wrote. Both vehicles then left the parking lot and traveled eastbound on West Bertsch Street, back toward the 200 block of East Bertsch.Ohl initiated a traffic stop with the Jeep while Helmer stopped the Blazer at Walnut Street.Helmer asked for the driver's license, registration and insurance papers. He wrote that the male appeared very nervous and that his hands were shaking. The papers identified the man as King. Helmer asked King what he was doing at the store, since his behavior appeared suspicious. King answered that he was just getting an iced tea.Helmer asked him who he had been talking and King said he didn't know, and said the man had asked him to buy him an iced tea because he was out of gas.Helmer asked King to step out of his vehicle for safety purposes because King was shaking and appeared very nervous. Helmer asked King to step back from the vehicle and that he was going to pat him down for weapons.King suddenly pulled away from Helmer and put his right hand in his right front pants pocket.King refused to comply with commands to remove his hand from his pocket and continued to yell, Helmer wrote.King did remove three small plastic bags from his pants pocket, all of which contained a white powdery residue. Helmer put the bags in his cruiser's trunk. Ohl arrived and helped subdue King.
