June 3, 1994 Northwestern Athletic Director Jim Shaughnessy announces the school has hired Steve Gabryluk as its new head boys basketball coach. Gabryluk replaces the Tigers' former mentor, John Schmoyer. Gabryluk will guide Northwestern for nine seasons and compile a record of 126-109. He leads the Tigers into the district playoffs seven of those seasons and wins a D-11 championship in 1997-98.
