The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) to be prepared for a southbound right-lane closure, slow moving or stopped traffic when traveling between the Mahoning Valley (Exit #74) Interchange and the Lehigh Tunnel Monday, today through Thursday, May 27 during placement of concrete beams on the new bridges that cross the Pohopoco Creek in Carbon County.

Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. the southbound right-lane will be closed to traffic between milepost A75-A73 to allow the contractor to pick the beams off the Turnpike and set them on to the new bridges. During this operation motorists traveling northbound and southbound should be prepared for State Police conducted traffic paces and multiple stoppages of up to 15 minutes daily.At different times during the day, for no more than 15 minutes, State Police will stop northbound traffic south of the Lehigh Tunnel (milepost A70.1), southbound traffic north of the Mahoning Valley (Exit #74) Interchange, and motorists entering I-476 at the Interchange from Route 209 will be stopped at the toll plaza.Additionally, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Monday-Wednesday) Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will assist with the delivery of (7) "superload" concrete beams entering the Mahoning Valley Toll Plaza from Route 209 as they proceed southbound into the right-lane. Due to the size and length of the beams motorists should anticipate delays in the area between the Interchange and the project area adjacent to the new bridges.Motorists traveling within the project work zone located should anticipate slow moving traffic, lane closures and 15-minute stoppages from now until the end of June.The contractor's schedule is dependent on weather, delivery schedules and equipment availability and subject to change.
