A drug dealer and a man who assaulted a guard at the county prison were both given long state prison terms Monday in Carbon County court.

Drug dealingMartin Garvey, 64, of Nesquehoning, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve 30 to 60 months in a state correctional facility for one ocunt of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-oxycodone.Garvey was arrested by agents of the state Attorney General's office for selling the drug to a confidential informant (CI) in Nesquehoning in March and April 2009. Garvey sold 20 pills of the drug for $300 to the CI on two separate occasions near his home along School Street.Garvey has been in prison since his arrest and was given credit for 412 days against the sentence. He was also ordered to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and supply a DNA sample.Prison incidentCarlos Gonzalez, 24, of Allentown, was sentenced to serve 15 to 30 months in a state prison on a charge of aggravated harassment by a prisoner.He was arrested on April 3, 2009, for an incident at the county prison in Nesquehoning. Nesquehoning police charged that he caused a flood in his cell area. A corrections officer went to the cell to turn off the water. As the officer was kneeling to turn off the water control device Gonzalez urinated on him.Nanovic also ordered Gonzalez to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and supply a DNA sample. He was given credit for 15 days spent in jail on the charge. The prison term runs concurrent with a state prison sentence Gonzalez is currently serving.Both defendants must pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee when paroled.
