Good news from PV schools

Pleasant Valley school board directors and administrators reported several items of "Good News" in the school district.

Amy Braxmeier, Polk Elementary principal, reported that Polk raised $2,500 at the Math-a-thon for St. Jude.Pleasant Valley Elementary school participated in the American Red Cross of Monroe County Quarter-A-Thon and collected a total of $386.12. Ms. Kuntz's fourth grade class was the top collecting class.Eldred Elementary student Noah Neubert, under leadership of Mrs. Nancy Yurkovich, received second place honors in the Work Zone Safety Poster Contest, receiving an award of $50.Over 25 Eldred and Chestnuthill staff, parents and students participated in the Walk for Autism on April 18 and raised $500 for Autism Speaks.Congratulations are in order for the following Pleasant Valley High School students who competed and placed at the State FBLA Competition: Angela Leonardi-Outstanding Chapter, 3rd place; Kristin Cook, Meghan Nieves, Matt Solt-Community Service Project, 4th place; Frankie Lewoc, Anthony Reyes-Annual Business Report, 4th place; Jamie Lavender-Word Processing II, 5th place; Frankie Lewoc, Angela Leonardi, Matt Solt-American Enterprise Project, 7th place; Anthony Reyes-FBLA Principles and Procedures, 8th place; Meghan Nieves-Partnership with a Business, 8th place; State Project, $5,000 raised for Habitat for Humanity, 1st place; Professional Division, Recruitment of Members, 1st place; Most Community Service Hours, 5th place.PVHS student James Patterson is the Monroe County Spelling Champion.Monroe County Technical Institute student Tom Ruck was awarded 2nd place in the American Welding Society Competition.MCTI students Duncan Rodriquez was named PENN HOSA's State Historian and Kourtney Connelly, State Secretary.PVHS senior, Ben Paraham has been accepted to attend Harvard University.The 12th grade honors English class will sponsor a "Follow Me to a Mother's Day Tea" on Saturday, May 8 from 2-5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria to benefit the Follow Me Foundation.The PVHS senior class will host the annual Gong Show on Friday, May 14 from 7-10 p.m. in the new high school auditorium.Special Olympics will be held at the PVHS stadium on Tuesday, May 18.
